Tartu Folk 2023

About the event

Since 2016, Tartu Folklore Club Maatasa has organized an international festival, the focus of which has been unset tradition and the target group has been young people. During the corona restrictions, it was not possible to organize a live party, so the web show Tartu Folk-Off was launched. The conjoint folk battle provided tension for both the participants and the audience. The show was watched from various European countries, as well as from Canada and America. Alas, the virtual meeting did not replace face-to-face communication, which the participants have missed a lot. Therefore this year the organizers decided to once again focus on the live festival, while maintaining the connection with the web show Tartu Folk-Off. The best ensembles that participated in the web show in 2022 will perform at the folklore festival in late autumn. The folk festival Tartu Folk is also a preparation for the year 2024, when there is a desire to combine the web show and the live festival and celebrate Tartu’s status as the capital of culture in a grand manner and with a large number of participants.

The folk festival Tartu Folk will take place from 17.-19. November in Tartu. The concerts will take place in the Luunja Culture and Leisure Centre, in various schools in Tartu, and the Estonian National Museum.

The main performers of the festival are Perlynka (Ukraine), Ķocis (Latvia), Ratilio (Lithuania), young musicians from Kihnu (Estonia).
